I had some strange thought when I heard 'There is no real one', and perhaps Madara is not Tobi, but Pein. I know there has already been a thread on this, but my theory is a little different. So, Nagato already had the Rinnegan, so that hasn't changed, but as far as I'm concerned, the Rinnegan controls dead bodies and gives them a power. Maybe, knowing Madara, he was about to die of old age about a gajillion years ago. Well, maybe Nagato saved him with the Rinnegan. At this time, Nagato would have been the transmitter, but what would happen if Nagato died? That would make Madara the new transmitter at Nagato's will, wouldn't it? So, then, Madara used the Rinnegan to control Yahiko to take on the identity as Pein. And as for Tobi, maybe Tobi is Obito. Maybe when Obito was about to die, Madara took control of him and made him take the identity as Tobi. After a while, Madara might have thought it was a bit safer to make sure no one found his identity, so to do that, he made Tobi announce that has is Tobi, and now everyone insists that Tobi is Madara when it's possibly Pein. This is a possible theory, but I still think the most plausible is Nagato is true Pein and Danzou is Tobi.

you lost me at nagato saving madara. Nagato couldn't be able to save him cuz the time frame is wrong: nagato wasn't alive a gajillion years ago.
plus, how could madara have both the rinnegan and sharigan? that makes no sense

and obito's dead. besides when kakashi met tobi, don't you think he would've recognized him? but that's beside the point. tobi isn't obito

This would b a okay theory, except that nagato wasnt alive back then, and i dont htink kishi would do something that complicated.

kakashi did recognize tobi when they met...he looked at his sharingan eye and like freaked out and then tobi ran away

but...i dont think the theory would be that complex...and madara would die of old age way before nagato was born.
the reason madara is still alive is probably linked to his EMS or some kind of immortality jutsu, and if Madara was infact using an immortality jutsu, he could be using Obito's body like orochimaru does.

Kakashi was surprised because he saw the sharingan not because he recognised the specific person behind the mask (he only could say an eye afterall).. considering that he probably though the only surviving people who have the sharingan were Itachi and Sasuke (and himself) it would come as a shock that another may have them... Obito... I'm kind of sick of this theory... there's a greater possibility hat Madaara is Danzou (or they're connected in some way) than that...

Honestly let Obito rest in peace already. He got crushed by a giant rock, What more proof do you need that he is dead?

Nagato couldn't have saved madara considering Madara was about 60 years old at nagato's birth.

But the theory that nagato died AFTER meeting madara and madara somehow inheriting the Rin'negan is plausible but highly unlikely, So i won't disprove this theory just yet (Need mo info!)

Clearly when I said a gajillion years ago, I brought up some confusion. I didn't mean a long time ago. I just meant that Nagato would've been there BEFORE Madara died of old age. He could have had another sixty years to go.

aaawww god. obito is dead! ok dead! everyone in these threads about madara's identities are always making lame theories about him being obito, but you all fail to realize that dead people do not grow after death. not even the great pein can make a dead body continue to grow into an adult after dying as a child it just doesnt make any sense. why cant people just accept that tobi is madara, madara is madara, pein is nagato, danzo is danzo. btw what would danzo stand to gain from controlling the leaf and mist villages at the same time, nothing. madara's goal since losing to the 1st hokage has been the destruction of the leaf village. he is revenge motivated and always has been.

If Pain was Madara, why would he refer to Jiraiya as his former teacher?

Face it, Pain has to be Nagato.
